Dead Letter Circus are a band that most Australian rock fans had at least heard of before the release of their debut album, ‘This Is The Warning’. They had a lot to prove on their debut album, and it is safe to say they exceeded expectations.
Dead Letter Circus have created a sound that is a mix of the best parts of Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect and Dredg, but delivered with more energy. For fans of progressive rock music they are a band to add to your collection. Kim Benzies’ vocals soar to all types of highs throughout and sing melodies that will even get those who usually hold back from singing out loud burst out a few horrible attempts of imitation. The energy they manage to capture on tracks like ‘Here We Divide’, ‘Big’, ‘This Long Hour’, is simply amazing and beautiful. ‘Cage’ is the song that fans will take most notice of. It draws the listener into a room where they are one with the band and everything is as fragile as it is harmonious. ‘This Is The Warning’ is an album up to the standards that fans expected and an album that will convert those who ignored the tremors before hand.
‘This Is The Warning’ is a debut album almost impossible to ignore. Very few bands release an album of this standard and originality. Every fan of Australian rock music will know Dead Letter Circus now.
