Music is one of the greatest tools we have, and when individuals use this tool to soothe and inspire, that is when you know the music industry has another special artist. Israel Cannan’s ‘Walk’ is a journey that deserves to be discovered.
Israel Cannan has already enjoyed some success with acting, and some might remember him from his small part in Australia’s second longest running drama, ‘Home and Away’. Stepping out from in front of the camera and onto small stages, and even your street corner, it is safe to say Israel has now found his calling. In February 2010, he undertook a journey with the help of one of his friends and travelled all across Australia playing his songs in the streets, to whoever would listen. At the end of the journey Israel has gifted us with ‘Walk’. Songs such as ‘To The Left’ and ‘On My Way’ show the true talent with words and music he possesses. When listening to ‘Where The Story Unfolds’ its easy to imagine the legendary Eddie Vedder sitting next to Israel playing along. The album suddenly changes tempo with the standout song ‘One Fine Day’. This is a song that immediately grabs the listeners’ attention and leaves them wondering why they have wasted their time listening to artists that have no true message behind their music. Israel manages to put every ounce of passion he has into his music, whether it be his vocals or his acoustic guitar. His music has the innocence of Youth Group and the emotion of Eddie Vedder. Another fact to add to this story is that he also played every instrument, recorded and produced this album himself.
‘Walk’ is a classic album no matter how many copies it sells. An album this pure and beautiful is a rare occurrence. The story, the music, and the man, Israel Cannan is who Australian’s and everyone else in this world should be listening to. Israel Cannan is the whole package and a present that will hopefully keep on giving…cause it is safe to assume he will not ask for anything in return.
