Lord – Set In Stone

For Fans Of: Iron Maiden, Dragonforce.

Lord have emerged from the demise of Australian metal band Dungeon. Having enjoyed success with their previous effort ‘Ascendence’, they are back bigger, faster and more melodic than ever with their latest album ‘Set In Stone’.

Before listening to Lord’s latest album ‘Set In Stone’ you must properly prepare yourself. Firstly set the volume to 11, secondly cut off all communications to the outside world and thirdly find a seat that you won’t fall off of once you push play.

‘Redemption’ wastes no time at all with kicking you out of that seat you thought you wouldn’t fall out of. This song sets the bar very high for the rest of the album. Then they throw ‘100 Reasons’ at you. The speed has slowed down but the melody has jumped up by 100. Lord Tim’s vocals are of a world class standard and can be compared to that of metal legend Bruce Dickinson. Title track ‘Set In Stone’ contains possibly the most bad arse Australian metal riff ever written. Every metal fan loves solos of all kinds, what is there not to like. Well ‘Be My Guest’ has a total of 10 guest musicians, who all play at least one solo on the song…and then add the band members of Lord who all play at least one solo on the song….and then add a section of nearly 30 seconds when every instrument is played by Lord Tim. That adds up to every Metal fan and musician’s dream. Lord go from brutally fast and heavy to heartfelt soft, slow on this album. Best example of their softer side is their song ‘New Horizons’, which they have made a video for. Everyone always remembers those 80’s metal ballads, well this song is a metal ballad for the new millennium. Without a doubt ‘New Horizons’ would score a lot of airplay on both radio and television around the world if the people in power discovered the song. Which unfortunately is YET to happen. Other standout songs include ‘Eternal Storm’, ‘Someone Else’s Dream’, ‘Forever’, ‘Beyond The Light’, ‘The End Of Days’ and Kylie Minogue cover ‘On A Night Like This’.

Lord Tim describes ‘Set In Stone’ the best, ‘songs ranging from the most commercial of rock up to the most crushing of extreme metal’. Not only is this album the new benchmark for Lord to live up to but also for the rest of Australian Metal. Get ready to worship LORD!

A great review of an even greater Australian band.
I travel interstate, just for the chance to see these guys play live. Never regretted one trip yet!!!

How long will it take Australian Metalheads to realise, that we have some of the best Metal bands in the world, and that we need to really get out to gigs, buy merch, and support local!!!
