Mourning Tide – Self Titled

For Fans Of: Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster.

Mourning Tide have not been a band to repeat the same sound. So with their brand new self-titled follow up to the glam-metal ‘Trash N Burn’, the question is what will this Gold Coast band sound like now?

Before listening to Mourning Tide’s latest release, there is no questioning the quality that awaits you. When you hear the first licks of guitar for ‘Viva Lamprey’ you realize you are not moving away from the CD player until the very end of the album. ‘The Inversion Of John Citizen’ has so much groove that you won’t be able to resist temptation to bust a move. Their sound has drifted away from what made ‘Trash N Burn’ a standout and ventured more towards the dirty south. ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘We The Creeple’ sound as if they stole them straight from Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster and put the Mourning Tide touch on them. A pleasing addition to the album is the guest vocal spot by Wayne Mcanulty from Concrete Street on ‘Doom Diary’. Then after all that once you think there will be no more surprises they end the album with ‘Crow Boat’. This song sounds as if vocalist Tyrone and lead guitarist Dale wrote it while living in the swamps on a front porch while cooking up some alligator after a hard long day of hunting.

Mourning Tide’s self-titled album is full of dirty, fast, sing-a-long, heavy, loud music that will surprise and shock those who have not yet heard of them. Tyrone sings it best ‘I won’t slave to the motherfucking man, only to the licks of the guitar’. Once again guitarist Dale Paul Walker has delivered an awe-inspiring performance. Just listen to how high he gets with his solo on ‘Darkroom’. One can only hope that Mourning tide will forever release quality music of every genre they wish to dip their instruments into.
