For Fans Of: Dream Theatre, Iron Maiden, Hammerfall.
Project X should ring a bell for some old Aus metalheads. Well fifteen years after releasing their debut album ‘The Mirror’, they are back with the follow up ‘D Generation’. Comprising of members from a large list of Australian metal bands, Project X have the talent to make other bands run and hide.
Kicking things off is the thrashy ‘Whipping Boy’, which brings to mind the likes of metal gods Iron Maiden. Second song ‘Last Man Standing’ slows down a gear but goes up a notch on the epic scale. When a metal band writes a soft song the outcome is usually amazing. That is why it comes as no surprise that the two softer songs ‘Alive’ and ‘Writing On The Wall’ are standout songs off the album. They also have added a metal version of The Angel’s ‘Take A Long Line’, and as usual everything sounds better as a metal version. ‘D Generation’ includes 14 world-class metal songs, and has enough variety that ensures every listen is entertaining.
Project X have delivered an album that is sure to please metalheads across the world. ‘D Generation’ may have been a very, very long wait for their fans but once they push play all will be forgiven. This is a band that creates respect for the Australian metal scene.
