The Gold Coast is now home to one of the most promising black/death metal bands in the country, Widow The Sea. ‘Novella Of The Ocean’ is their debut EP, and is sure to blast a dark and tortured hole out of your bedroom wall.
‘The Nameless City’ is the first single and song off the EP. Music does not get any heavier or faster than this song. Widow The Sea have taken influences from the Swedish pioneers of this genre and injected the music with an adrenaline boost. The vocals by Colin Jeffs are of a world-class standard. For those that love the deep, low brutal growls and then the screams that nightmares are made of, will love these songs. By the time the second track starts, title track ‘Novella Of The Ocean’, listeners will be in awe of the drumming provided by Cameron Hui. The EP finishes with ‘Emergence A.D.’, which continues the destructive music and leaves no room for the listener to rest from track 1-6.
‘Novella Of The Ocean’ is produced and engineered by none other than Roman Koester (The Red Shore), and mastered by Goran Finnberg (In Flames, Devin Townsend) over in Sweden. Having those two people in charge of a band with this much talent and promise is why the result is so impressive. One can only hope that Widow The Sea and Brisbane’s Signal The Firing Squad will be haunting the local music scene for years to come.
