Wish For Wings – Afterlife

For Fans Of: Bury Your Dead.

Wish For Wings took off quicker than a girl taking off her top at a Motley Crue show. Their debut EP ‘From The Past To The Grave’ is a favourite amongst the hardcore kids. Now armed with a second guitarist, Oliver Bones from The Wrath, and a debut album ‘Afterlife’, can they prove they didn’t finish before it all started?

At first glance of the album the artwork grabs your attention and would make Rob Zombie proud. The best starting to any album is without a doubt on ‘Afterlife’. The intro is a creepy, moody mess of noise you would hear in a horror movie. It builds up right to the start of ‘Mister Evening’ and then the song kicks in and will scare turtles out of their shells (if that were possible). To describe ‘Afterlife’ as a whole, well it is best said by singer Rhys Watts in ‘Wolves’ … ‘Infuriate, irritated, annoyed and just plain old pissed off’. His vocals have noticeably improved, not many would be able to scream as many lyrics as fast as he does. Their sound is a little towards the metal side now and that is probably from the influence of new guitarist Oliver Bones. With the addition of some guitar solos as well, which is always a fan pleaser. Stand out songs are ‘Deepening Darkened World’, title track ‘Afterlife’ and ‘Best Three Out Of Five’. Those songs show the quality, anger and fast paced music that Wish For Wings are known.

Wish For Wings have produced a horrifying debut album. The message they are saying is ‘We are not done destroying the Australian Scene’. Yes they play the same music as a lot of bands but Wish For Wings make it their own. They are just another class act Australia has to offer from its wide variety of talent.
