For Fans Of: Thrice, Norma Jean.
The Gold Coast is a place gifted with beautiful weather, some of the world’s best beaches, and four of Australia’s most famous theme parks. This environment has created some of Australia’s best bands. One of the more talented was A Secret Death, who gifted us with their self-titled debut album. An album that unfortunately few have heard.
The albums opening song ‘Gloom With A View’ sets the level for what lays ahead. Gloomy, emotional, aggressive, heavy music. Their music is an unpredictable controlled force. A Secret Death’s sound can be described as a heavier, punkier Thrice. Every song has multiple layers and sides, which make every listen intriguing and interesting. Songs such as ‘Invitation…To A Party’, ‘IDKFA’, ‘Cowboy In Reverse’, and ‘Depressed For Success’, are proof that A Secret Death can stand tall and strong against any big name overseas group.
A Secret Death could have soared to greater heights. They are another band who disappeared too soon. This album deserves to be heard by much more than it has. A Secret Death fans are all hoping for album number two to appear out of the darkness.
