Byron Bay is the home to Parkway Drive. They single handedly put Byron Bay on the musical radar across the world. They are also responsible for the amount of young hardcore bands blooming out of the surfing town. Powerslam may have only been together for 3years, but they showed more talent and promise than many bands ever do. ‘This Is Our Own’ is their EP that many hardcore fans will always fondly remember and leave them wishing that Powerslam provided their music collection with much, much more.
The EP opens up with crowd favourite and stand out track ‘1988’. Capturing the vibe that has made hardcore music special to fans all around the world, and igniting crowd participation during their shows is what made Powerslam a standout young band. ‘This Is Our Time’ and ‘Just Add Water’ include heavy breakdowns, fast melodic sections, with the energy and emotion of a young and enthusiastic band.
They may have only been around for a blink of an eye but they sure left a small group of Australian hardcore fans forever craving more. ‘This Is Our Own’ is an EP that fans of hardcore only hearing it for the first time today will thoroughly enjoy. Powerslam will be remembered for the right things and definitely not the bad that led to their demise.
